ALPHABETS - UNITY OF DEVERSITY

“We may have all come on different ships,

but we're in the same boat now...

Darkness cannot drive out darkness;

only light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out hate;

only love can do that.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

The struggle for a peaceable world free of prejudice is not a solitary endeavor; each and every one of our world’s citizens has an integral role to play. We must work collaboratively to override the damages of negative stereotyping, a calamitous habit that has driven our world’s population apart. We have to come together to create a more hospitable and sustainable future based on mutual appreciation and understanding.

“Using the alphabet as a literal and metaphoric reference, my paintings proffer a dialogue on the unique history and beauty of divergent cultures that equally celebrates their individuality and collective influence on our world’s narrative-past and present.”

While each painting employs the distinctive attributes of one culture and country, their imagery and symbols emblematic of that culture’s rich and textured heritage, they are representational of the collective continuum of humanity.

Though we may speak different languages, we are all one, indivisible within our global community. The Alphabet Series speaks in unison of the promise of a compassionate and harmonious future; each painting offers an edifying meditation on the power of unity.

For the exhibition of The Alphabet Series

The individual works in The Alphabet Series are unique and stand-alone; however the most effective presentation is a display of the series in its entirety or a truncated adaptation based on the capacity of the exhibition space. The series contains canvas, wood and aluminum paintings, as well as wall hung high relief sculptural pieces of medium sizes; their arrangement can be mixed-and-matched according to the emphasis of the venue.
