Greek Columns as Bases of Western Civilization

Updated: Mar 14, 2018

The Greek alphabet has given rise to many of the alphabets now used throughout Europe and the Middle East. The columns in this painting depict each of its 24 letters, and their forms, set on a sea blue background, mirror the order of Greek architecture—from the early Minoan, to the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian.

Greek Columns pays homage to the powerful influence of the Greek culture, with its great philosophers and architects, on the foundation of Western Civilization.
