Updated: Mar 14, 2018

The Mexican alphabet is hidden in Succulent cactus fruits, to show the historical survival strength of the Mexican population in draught conditions. The focal point on the horizon is a Mayan pyramid in reference to the ancient thirst of astronomical knowledge of the Mayan people and their great achievements in astronomy. A red sombrero is painted in reference to the popular “Mariachi” musical tradition. The virgin Guadalupe appears on one of the leaves of the cacti. Dahlias, the national flower of Mexico is placed in a vase which is shaped in the form of a tequila bottle-one of the major exports of Mexico. Corn tortilla chips and guacamole are offered in an avocado-shaped bowl (The word “avocado” comes from the “ahuácatl” in the ancient Nahuatl language). The Iguana alludes to the culture of wood-carving of the Alebrijes as one of the most popular art in Oaxaca and other regions of Mexico. The Tzolkin and Jaab characters of the ancient Mayan calendar are ensconced on the windowsill.
